I've been on a fabric snob journey as I slowly donate and resell my current wardrobe. It's not just about longevity either, polyester has been bad for my skin and (TMI) Ph balance. I've had good luck with online thrifting since EVERY brand is selling marked up polyester and quality can't be trusted for most modern brands. Especially for budget baddies like me.
I love this. Growing up, my mum treated her clothes like mini works of art. She had a wardrobe system, cleaning & hanging process, and was meticulous with what she bought. I couldn’t tell you why or how I haven’t adopted or inherited this trait, but this article has inspired me to do so!
The way petrochemicals and plastics have transformed our clothing and the industry over the last half century is unbelievable. This is the place to start if you want to shop more sustainably. Great ideas, Mandy!
omg mother mandy is here…!!! i really want to get better at sewing/tailoring. tailors are amazing but i often find it hard with my anxiety to be exacting abt how i want my clothes to fit to another person. i already have basic machine sewing skills and i want to invest more time in getting good at altering my own clothes.
Great ideas here, thank you. This year I want to be better at mending, either doing visible mending or just staying on top of the little rips and tears.💕
always have a seam ripper in my bag, and a flat measuring tape is genuinely essential when you’re selling/buying secondhand online because sizing charts are SO inconsistent. i only believe what the centimetres tell me 😌
That’s cool! And I implore everyone to do their own research figuring out what they are comfortable with. At this time I’m just not really interested in buying more synthetic however I agree there’s exceptions (pleated fabric, nylon ect) to each their own <3
Thank you for this! I have “take better care of my clothes” on my list of resolutions, but this gives me some many more tangible and actionable ways to actually do that. I’m on the right track but can be doing so much more!
I really like puracy for laundry soap. Their stain remover also work really well.
Thank you thank you! Adding to my list <3
Love Puracy stain remover and Nellie’s laundry detergent!

i’m so excited for what’s to come on cyclical!
Excellent tips. I have thrifted vintage Barrie and Ballantyne 100% cashmere sweaters that do not pill. Thrifted knitwear reveals itself at a glance.
Does anyone have a cobbler rec for LA 🫶
“but fabric shouldn’t receive a participation trophy just because the design is cool. “ clocked me
"I love giving my wardrobe the princess treatment!" YES! Cheers to treating our treasures like, well, treasures!
Subscribing to each of these resolutions!!
For folks in ATX: Lone Star cobbler and Gassane Tailors have treated me very well over the last few years!

Sabrina Heyink makes a strong case for synthetics. She has an excellent Substack called “Are You Wearing That?”

Yes. Just thought I’d mention it for anyone who’s interested.
Eucalan is an excellent gentle detergent for wool and other delicate/hand wash items.
